  • 2 Where did the idea of Tinga come from?

    Founders Story

Rob’s journey began when his wife, Kylie, developed Behçet’s disease after childbirth, requiring years of strict dietary adjustments. With nearly two decades in the consumer packaged goods industry, Rob saw an opportunity to simplify meal planning for those with dietary restrictions—leading to the creation of Tinga.

Named after their daughter’s favorite cartoon, Tinga symbolizes life’s pivotal moments that call for change—whether due to health, family, or age. Rob and Kylie built Tinga to make these transitions easier for everyone.

  • 3 Where can I find guidance on how to use different app functions?

On the home page, you will find "How it works", videos.  If you would like us to add one, submit a request and will do our best to accommodate.

  • 4 Why am I asked where I usually shop?

By selecting your preferred store(s), Tinga customizes recipe suggestions based on the products available to you, making meal planning seamless. We're just getting started with a handful of stores and are working to expand our list to enhance your experience!

  • 5 How does Tinga’s Recipe Generator work?

Tinga revolutionizes meal planning with our proprietary algorithm, its like having a dietitian and chef in your pocket. We meticulously synthesize crucial data points including dietary needs, allergens, dislikes, nutritional goals, preferred grocery items, cuisine preferences, culinary pairings, seasonal ingredients, portion control and diverse variety. The result? Personalized recipes tailored exclusively for you. Say goodbye to the guesswork of meal planning and hello to a week filled with endless culinary possibilities.

  • 6 Why can't I see ingredients in my generated recipe?

Sometimes when your recipes are generated, a gap in data recall can occur.  Simply regenerate and most of the time this resolves the issue.  Worst case, swipe up and close your app, then click to reopen it, and your issue should be resolved.

  • 7 How does Tinga’s grocery list score work?

Your grocery list score is a number between 0 and 100 that gives you insight into the food choices you make when shopping. ‘Green’ food items will boost you score the most, while red items won’t. At Tinga, we recommend aiming for a score between 70-100, the more green (great choices) the better!

Changing habits takes time, so be sure to celebrate small wins (even a few points increase!).  The more meals you make using our recipe generator, you’ll maximize your fresh whole foods consumption, which are green contributors.  Don’t forget to utilize Tinga swaps to help improve packaged food choices.

Your list score average is calculated from the last 4 lists you created. Each time you create a grocery list using Tinga, your average will update to show your progress and trend over time.

  • 8 How does Tinga score individual food items?

Tinga scores your grocery items and tags them with one of three labels to help you make better choices: Great (green), Good (yellow), Limit (red).

This scoring method is based on two criteria:

    1. Level of processing

Fresh whole foods start ‘green’ and can move to ‘yellow’ or ‘red’ based on added nutrients like sodium, sugar, and saturated fats. Processed foods start out ‘yellow’, while highly processed foods are often ranked ‘red’.

    2. Nutritional value

Positive nutrients like fibre and protein increase a food item's score, while negative nutrients like sodium, saturated fats, and added sugars decrease its score.
